Hà Nội move closer to a maiden national cup win. Holders SLNA ease through.

Hà Nội 1 – 1 Hoàng Anh Gia Lai  (3-3 Hà Nội win on away goals)

Att. 15,000

After a feisty first leg in Pleiku, which ended in a 2-2 draw and multiple suspensions for members of the Hanoi squad & management team, all eyes were on the Hàng Đẫy stadium and many U23 stars were again on show. 15,000 fans saw HAGL’s Nguyễn Văn Toàn open the scoring just after the restart, after Hanoi had dominated the first half but failed to find the breakthrough.

The visitors began excessive amounts of time wasting with over 30 minutes remaining, with multiple payers, some two at a time, feigning injury only to miraculously burst to life again. A few players were booked and even the physio got involved.  Visiting coach, Dương Minh Ninh, and his band of extremely talented players were made to pay for their poor gamesmanship when Hanoi central defender Nguyễn Thành Chung headed home a corner at the near post with just 8 minutes remaining.

This was a golden opportunity for this young squad of HAGL to cause a major upset and give themselves a real chance at their first silverware in 14 years, however the gamesmanship lleft them with little time to find second goal to avoid an away goals defeat and the team being booed out of the stadium
