ACL 2017 reunites T&T and Kitchee

V.League 1 2016 Champions Hà Nội T&T have been drawn away to KITCHEE FC in the Preliminary round 2 of the 2017 Asian Champions League. T&T will travel to Hong Kong for the tie on 25th January (new date) to be held at the Mongkok Stadium. This is a one-off tie, extra time and penalties, if necessary. The two teams met last year at the same stage, with T&T running out 1-0 winners, thanks to a goal from Argentine  striker, Gonzalo, at the Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi.

The winners will then travel to South Korea to face JEJU UTD, who finished 3rd in the 2016 K Legaue Classic, in the final play-off stage. The one-off tie will be played on 7th February at the 35,000 capacity Jeju World Cup Stadium.

The winners of this tie have then been placed in to Group E alongside KASHIMA ANTLERS (Japan), MUANGTHONG UTD (Thailand) and the winner of play-off 4 (likely to be either Shanghai Shenhua or Brisbane Roar). The group stages begin on 28th February.

AFC Cup 2017

If Hà Nội T&T fall to defeat in either Hong Kong or Korea they will drop in to ASEAN Group G of the newly restructured AFC CUP. The Vietnamese Champions will face FELDA UTD (Malaysia), TAMPINES ROVERS (Singapore) and CERES NEGROS (Philippines).  Should T&T progress to the ACL Group stage they will be replaced in Group G by SHB Đà Nẵng.

Debutants, Than Quảng Ninh, have been drawn into Group H alongside YADANARBON (Myanmar), LANEXANG UTD (Laos) and either PHNOM PEHN CROWN (Cambodia) or HOME UTD (Singapore).

The first round of group stage matches will start are to be held 20-22 February.
